Kuala lumpur: Malaysian Bioeconomy Development Corporation (Bioeconomy Corporation), under the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation Malaysia, has collaborated with South Korea’s Polaris Bio Co., Ltd. (Polaris Bio) to develop palm oil mill effluent (POME)-based biogas upgrading facilities in Malaysia. This partnership is a part of a broader strategy for renewable energy investments in the country.

According to BERNAMA News Agency, the collaboration includes an initial investment of RM30 million in the first facility, which is part of a larger RM700 million planned investment. This pilot project aims to assess both the technical and financial viability of biogas upgrading. It is anticipated to set the stage for a nationwide rollout of over 20 facilities. These facilities are projected to reduce up to 384,000 tonnes of CO2 equivalent emissions annually.
