MOSTI PROPELS MALAYSIAN INNOVATION THROUGH SUPERCHARGER SERIES 2024 AND MCY SUMMIT
KUALA LUMPUR, 27 JUNE 2024 - The Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation(MOSTI) today launched the Supercharger Series 2024. Themed “Visions to Venture:The Pre-Commercialisation Drive” for this year, the Series is a strategic initiativedesigned to foster collaboration, engagement and knowledge sharing within Malaysia’sResearch, Development, Commercialisation and Innovation (R&D&C&I) ecosystem.
Focused on facilitating the commercialisation journey from idea inception to marketentry (#IdeasToImpact), the Series is set to revolutionise the pre-commercialisationphase of Malaysian innovations and for 2024, it aims to create significant andfar-reaching impacts through:
- Cultivating Local Tech Champions: increasing the percentage of technopreneurship and a significant rise in the creation of startups and university spin-offs.
- Increasing Malaysia’s Commercialisation Rate: boosting R&D output with higher commercial value, as well as, developing numerous innovations across various technology readiness levels.
- Improving Economic Growth through R&D Commercialisation: involves enhancing collaboration and engagement within the R&D&C&I ecosystem, leading to more successful submissions funnelled to programmes and initiatives by MRANTI and its ecosystem partners.
- High Skilled Job Creation: fostering knowledge exchange among participants from international research institutes, whilst empowering Bumiputera communities.
This initiative provides valuableopportunities for university spin-off companies, researchers, private sectorentities, as well as, agencies to learn, identify challenges, and acceleratetheir commercialisation efforts.
YB Tuan Chang Lih Kang, Minister ofScience, Technology and Innovation said, “According to the Global InnovationIndex 2023, Malaysia is ranked 36th out of 132 economies. While thisachievement is noteworthy, there is ample room for advancement. Hence, theWhole of Government Approach (WGA) is crucial within the science, technology,and innovation (STI) sectors, towards ensuring that collaboration amongmultiple ministries and agencies can be fostered to address pressing societalissues via STI development, in line with the National Science, Technology, andInnovation Policy (2021-2030) (DSTIN)”, the Minister emphasised.
The Supercharger Series willinclude Power Sharing Sessions, MRANTI Programme Application & ConsultationBooths, Networking Lunches and Pre-Commercialisation Bootcamps, providinginnovators with essential insights, personalised consultations and networkingopportunities.
Datuk Wira Dr. Hj. Rais Hussin Hj. Mohamed Ariff, ChiefExecutive Officer of MRANTI: “The Supercharger Series marks MRANTI’s commitmentto provide the necessary tools, knowledge and networks to transform innovativeideas into impactful products and services. The growth of the SuperchargerSeries has indeed been remarkable, with participation tripling from 500 in 2022to over 1,500 in 2023 across Kuala Lumpur, Penang, Pahang and Johor,” hefurther added.
Meanwhile, the MalaysianCommercialisation Year (MCY) Summit 2024, scheduled for 12th of August at theKuala Lumpur Convention Centre, aims to celebrate and promote commercialisationsuccess stories from Malaysia’s universities, institutions and researchagencies. “Leading the Regional Innovation,” the summit theme lends focus onkey sectors such as biotechnology, the hydrogen economy and space technology.
As innovation is the lifeblood of economic development, theSupercharger Series 2024 and MCY Summit 2024 represent significant stepstowards Malaysia becoming a high-income, knowledge-based economy. As the mainsummit approaches, stakeholders including researchers, entrepreneurs, investorsand policymakers should take this opportunity to actively engage with theopportunities presented by MCY 2024.
