Malaysians produce 543,000 tonnes of waste daily and most of it will end up polluting our oceans. These wastes which is mainly plastic would take a long time to decompose which would cause further harm to the environment. A solution to this is a plant based biodegradable plastic which uses agriculture waste to produce a cheap bio plastic which can safely degrade in the environment.
Malaysia faces a pressing environmental issue with the daily production of 543,000 tonnes of waste, primarily composed of non-degradable plastics that end up polluting our oceans. The slow decomposition of plastic waste poses a long-term threat to the environment. To mitigate this, there is a need for a cost-effective solution in the form of plant-based biodegradable plastics, utilizing agricultural waste to produce eco-friendly bioplastics that safely degrade in the environment.
Biomer is a blend of agriculture waste and biodegradable polymers to produce a biodegradable plastic polymer. This plastic polymer is structurally strong to withstand molding processes. The bio polymer could then be manufactured into single use plastics such as lunch boxes and straws. Biomer is cheap to produce and can be produced in bulk.
• Agriculture/plant waste based
• Highly biodegradable & environmentally safe
• Cheaper to produce
The global bioplastics market is expected to grow at a 30% CAGR from 2013 to 2030. It is expected that the current 4% bioplastic market will grow to a 40% market share in 2030, which translates to a projected growth from USD 540 Billion to USD 803 Billion. Biomer agro based plastic is targeted to replace normal oil based plastics in the single use and plastic bag market which would be perfect to provide a cheap, biodegradable and structurally suitable replacement while using agriculture waste as production raw material.
