Coolit-gel® is a cellulose hydrogel developed from local non-woody biomasses including oil palm empty fruit bunch and kapok seed pod fibres. According to World Health Organization (WHO) in 2017, 4 million of deaths are estimated to happen caused by the inadequate consumption of fruits and vegetable. It is recommended by WHO for 20-35 gram of fiber intake per day however based on study by MOH, only 6 out of 100 Malaysian adults consumed enough dietary fiber (DF). Nevertheless, the usual intake for DF among populations is only 16g/day. Sufficient DF consumed would prevent an individual from many diseases such as diabetes, cancer and cardiovascular disease.

The uniqueness of this formulation lies in its ability to utilize by-products, reducing feed costs significantly. Cray-X has been tested on farmed red claw crayfish with significant growth performance compared to the control diet. The technology presents a high potential for commercialization in crayfish farms, feed producers, and other crustacean farms.
