The wastewater from textile plants is rated as the most polluted of all industrial sectors, because of the amount generated and the composition of the pollutants. Before the wastewater are allowed to discharge into the water stream, there are several methods applied to remove the highly toxic compounds, such as coagulation, precipitation, adsorption, ion exchange and reverse osmosis. From those method, the adsorption process is important to remove the dye pollutants.
Textile plants produce some of the most polluted wastewater in the industrial sector due to both the volume generated and the composition of pollutants. Several wastewater treatment methods, including coagulation, precipitation, adsorption, ion exchange, and reverse osmosis, are applied to remove highly toxic compounds before discharge. Among these methods, adsorption plays a pivotal role in effectively removing dye pollutants. How can we further enhance and optimize the adsorption process to improve the removal of dye pollutants from textile wastewater, reducing its environmental impact?
The product is based on a zwitterionic adsorbent that is applied to a cellulose to create an adsorbent coating. This creates an easy to use solid material that could be used in scaled up industrial wastewater application. ZwitAd uses less amount of adsorbent due to the coating process but has a better adsorption capacity.
• Removes cation and anion charges pollutants/dyes
• Stabilise pH of effluents
• Easy to integrate to existing systems with low maintenance requirement
Malaysia has become the eleventh largest export textile earner, contributing approximately RM 15.3 billion or 1.6 % of Malaysia’s total exports in manufactured goods. In addition to that, Malaysia has approved 12 projects with the total investment of RM 428.8 million solely for textiles and textile product industry. With more than 1500 textile industry companies and multiple wastewater treatment product suppliers in the current market, ZwitAd offers a cheap, effective and low maintenance solution which will able to integrate to the current adsorption wastewater treatment process.
