River pollution has been a topic of discussion since long ago and rivers in Sabah faced the same issue and worsening. It has then prompted Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) to come up with a new innovation, called the UMS River Cleaning Machine. The project started in 2018 and as of 2022, the prototype has been done and is currently being used in Faculty of Engineering for research purposes.
The increasing pollution of rivers in Sabah has been a pressing issue for a long time, prompting UMS to develop the UMS River Cleaning Machine. The machine aims to address the problem by removing pollutants from the river, providing a potential solution to improve the quality of the water and protect the environment.
1) Rotating Collection DeviceIt's a wheel-like device that rotates as it moves through the water, collecting floating garbage in its path. The collected waste in then stored in a compartment within the machine, allowing for easy disposal and preventing further pollution of the river.
2) Efficient Waste DisposalAfter collecting floating waste in its path, the machine will drops the collected waste into a chute that leads to a waste bin installed nearby. This process ensures the efficient disposal of waste and helps prevent further pollution of the river.
3) High Collection RateBased on research, the machine is able of collecting up to 90% of floating waste present in the water. This high collection rate makes the machine and effective tool in addressing the problem of river pollution in Sabah.
The UMS River Cleaning Machine's wheel-like design and efficient waste disposal system gives it a competitive edge over other river cleaning solutions, making it more effective and practical for addressing river pollution.
