Addressing the challenge of home-based stroke rehabilitation in Malaysia, a gamified solution has been devised to engage patients in therapeutic exercises. By transforming these exercises into interactive games, patients can enjoy the process while enhancing physical and cognitive functions.
In Malaysia, most stroke patients are discharged from the hospital and continue their rehabilitation at home with a caregiver. With gamification, therapeutic exercises are transformed into interactive 2D or 3D games that allow patients to gain similar physical and cognitive development as clinical practise.
Aside from the fact that post-stroke rehabilitation is so complex, home-based rehabilitation programmes are often unrecordable, unattractive and thus discouraging.
To meet the needs of stroke patients undergoing home-based rehabilitation in Malaysia, a gamified approach has been developed. By transforming therapeutic exercises into interactive games, patients can engage in enjoyable activities while improving physical and cognitive functions. This innovative prototype offers a more accessible and attractive alternative to traditional home-based rehabilitation programs, potentially overcoming the limitations of bulky and expensive rehab devices in the market.
Playing games while performing rehabilitation exercises will help post-stroke patients to improve their hand functions and carry out everyday tasks more easily.
