TECHNOLOGY Park Malaysia Corp Sdn Bhd (TPM) — an agency under the Science, Technology, and Innovation Ministry (Mosti) — yesterday signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Huawei Technologies (M) Sdn Bhd (Huawei Malaysia) and Telekom Malaysia Bhd (TM) to develop the MRANTI e-Services platform to drive technology commercialisation.

MRANTI is an agency established through the merger of TPM and the Malaysian Global Innovation Creativity Centre.

Mosti Minister Datuk Seri Dr Adham Baba said a total of RM30 million had been allocated in Budget 2022 for MRANTI to enhance local innovation and accelerate the use and development of technology.

“This will help the country solve current challenges, as stipulated in the IR4.0 policy,” he said at the MoU signing ceremony.

He added that the strong support from the government has enabled more funds and financing to be channelled to the development of local companies, especially among start-ups in raising standards and production of local innovation services and able to change the ecosystem from technology users to technology developers and creators.

“Through this collaboration, the expertise of the three strategic partners is synergised to create a dynamic environment where commercialisation services, technology expertise and testing sites are provided to support the competitiveness and portfolio development of local technology companies in the domestic and international markets,” he said.

Dr Adham noted that the MoU will benefit the country through the creation of a dynamic digital infrastructure in TPM which can stimulate research and the development of technology-based solutions in line with industry needs.

He said the MRANTI e-Services platform will also facilitate the supply and demand of intellectual property as well as innovative and technological products and services and more importantly, match these solutions with world demand.

“In addition, it also encourages the use of artificial intelligence (AI), software innovations, or locally made software as a service to empower future technologies and create more highly skilled and experienced talent through knowledge exchange in technology.

“This three-year strategic collaboration is in line with Mosti’s intention to develop a digital solutions framework in advancing innovation as well as promoting research results and intellectual property,” he added.

Meanwhile, TM One executive VP Shazurawati Abd Karim said this strategic collaboration is TM’s effort in strengthening its role as a people-centric technology firm, providing comprehensive digital infrastructure and solutions covering connectivity, cloud computing, data centre and cyber security.

The MRANTI e-Services platform will be hosted at TM One α Edge (Alpha Edge), where it has a full-stack hyper-scale feature and complies with the highest industry standards.

“This can help accelerate the digital transformation of local companies while supporting business innovation,” she said.

Also present was Huawei Malaysia VP Lim Chee Siong who said the company was committed to continuing contributing resources and expertise to the industry, in facing today’s challenges and guiding local companies to excel in the digital economy in the future.

He said these companies were expected to stimulate the ecosystem and drive the country’s digital economy in ensuring that Malaysia became Aseans’ leading digital hub.

“This MoU is a key driver in providing a competitive advantage for local companies that will be provided with skills on business analytics such as Big Data, AI and blockchain so that they can forge digital advances.

“Huawei Malaysia will continue to support the government’s aspirations for industrial transformation and the construction of more AI centres in the country while mentoring more cloud computing and AI talent in Malaysia,” Lim said.
