Dr. Eric Balan is the Chief Executive Officer of Asiatech Education Sdn Bhd. As the visionary leader, he shapes the company's direction in catalyzing the R&D&C&I ecosystem through sustainability, research collaboration, and commercialization. His focus is on bridging innovation and technology to the opportunities presented by national development mandates and trade agreements.
Driven by the possibilities presented by the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP) and Belt and Road Initiatives, Dr. Eric is inspired by the extensive spectrum of borderless connectivity opportunities. His pivotal role is to connect education, technology innovation, and talent development to create thriving ecosystems.
Dr. Eric specializes in International Economics, Global Strategic Management, and Sustainable Development Goals. His primary research revolves around China's influence on the Belt and Road Initiatives and the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership. He is the author of the acclaimed text on China-Central Asia's geoeconomic perspective and has written two additional books on city development and economic efficiencies.
In the field of technology and innovation, Dr. Eric was part of the pioneering team that worked on Malaysia's largest marketplaces, Zalora and Lazada, in 2011/2012. He later joined Astro, where he focused on developing gaming apps for children. Prior to 2011, he spent six years designing and building data centers while working with Telekom Malaysia. Before that, he was involved in computer network equipment manufacturing. Dr. Eric's first achievement in the technology field stemmed from his research in improving internet data speed in the early 2000s.
