Join MRANTI’s World Engineering Day and gain access to the latest impact technologies that can help achieve the SDGs.

The field of engineering has a critical role to play in the achievement of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly in Asia. With many countries in the region undergoing rapid industrialisation and urbanisation, there is a growing need for engineers who can design and implement technologies that are both economically and environmentally sustainable.

As of December 2022, The Star reports that the industry has a healthy labour pool of 172,900 graduate engineers, 5,900 professional engineers and 9,100 professional engineers with BEM-registered practising certificates. Malaysia is teeming with bright engineering minds, but too often they need help figuring out where to turn upon graduation

Engineering Accreditation Council (EAC) has been a steadfast partner to Malaysia's institutions of higher learning (IHL) since 2000, accrediting an impressive 356 engineering programmes. EAC is the entity authorised by the Board of Engineers Malaysia (BEM) for accreditation of engineering degree programmes since 2000.

MRANTI seeks to team up with universities across the country to give their students a head start and bridge the gap between studying and putting those newly acquired skills into practice.

MRANTI is hosting the Malaysian chapter of the World Engineering Day (WED) Celebration 2023 on 11th - 12th March at MRANTI Park, Bukit Jalil. Themed “Engineering Possibilities”, the event seeks to raise engineering ambitions in Malaysia through a forum and design challenges settings.

The World Engineering Day 2023 (WED 2023), organised in partnership with the Board of Engineers Malaysia (BEM) and the Institution of Engineers Malaysia (IEM), is a visionary initiative aimed at harnessing the power of engineering to achieve sustainable goals. The aim of the event is to inspire the development of 500 next-generation engineers and innovators, trigger action towards sustainability, and bring 40 ideas to life as physical prototypes. This event is an excellent opportunity for the engineering community to demonstrate their commitment to sustainability and innovation.

With R&D-centric activities focused on engineering excellence, everyone has opportunities to explore some genuinely innovative solutions towards achieving SDGs success.

An Event of Celebration

Proclaimed by UNESCO, World Engineering Day is a globally celebrated event on the 4th of March to amplify engineers, the engineering field, and the engineered products that have been created to make the world a better place.

MRANTI is organising the WED 2023 on the back of this global landmark occasion to harness the power of engineering by pioneering new technologies to catalyse ideas into solutions and push for change.

MRANTI aims to do even more with this event by rallying youths, engineering professionals and advocates to pair innovation with practical solutions, resulting in real impacts. Moreover, celebrating this day can galvanise citizens and organisations to work together to solve global challenges. As such, we are eager for what WED 2023 will bring!

The two-day event promises to be a unique and extremely engaging experience, with an impressive variety of activities available for all participants. From thought-provoking forums and stimulating competitions to practical workshops and interactive demonstrations, everyone is sure to find something that appeals to their interests.

Furthermore, this is all taking place at a well-equipped hub that incorporates some of the most exciting technologies associated with 4IR. This remarkable juxtaposition between traditional activities and groundbreaking innovations makes the two-day event a one-of-a-kind experience not to be missed.

Great Sessions, Solid Speakers

A WED session on reengineering the world brings together seven notable speakers to discuss the most innovative advancements in bioscience, 4IR, climate, and smart city techs. This is an excellent opportunity for university students, lecturers, aspiring engineers, and researchers to engage with these professionals. Sustainable engineering that meets SDGs will be essential for upholding our environment. MRANTI provides education on these matters and encourages everyone to join this important session.

The WED Young Engineers Challenge is an amazing opportunity designed to bring out the best in any student interested in having their creativity put to the test. Through this sprint-like challenge, secondary students will be able to build on their prototype-building skills while being tasked with addressing real smart cities' problem statements. All within a 24-hour time window! If you are a student, join us and show off your engineering know-how or challenge yourself with learning something new – either way, you'll develop superb technical, problem solving and organisational skills.

Meanwhile, WED Design Challenge on smart cities ideas will be launched on 11th of March. Youth teams of undergraduates and postgraduates from engineering and other various disciplines are invited to compete and pitch their most innovative, groundbreaking smart city ideas in the form of prototypes for the ultimate investment prize worth up to RM30,000.00. It’s an exciting event for anyone interested in transforming Malaysian cities for the better. Applicants are invited to submit their application by 5th of May. Pitching bootcamp and the finale will be held on 7 and 8th of June.

As Malaysia is showing clear evidence of climate change impacts, having the aspiring younger generation build a self-sustainable city, as defined by United Nations SDG 11, will help elevate the living standards for all.

MRANTI ‘s journey from Ideas to Impact

As the 21st century brings a new era of globalisation and unprecedented technological advancements, sustainable engineering has quickly become one of the most important considerations for any nation's economic growth and well-being.

To ensure a brighter future for the generations that follow, MRANTI has come together to create the ultimate platform – WED 2023 – to cultivate and grow the skills of next-gen innovators. With this platform, we provide a gateway for Malaysia to unlock its full potential by discovering the unlimited power of talented individuals and their innovative mindsets. By participating in WED 2023, we empower each other to re-engineer what was previously deemed impossible, ultimately creating a better world for us all.

MRANTI also hopes to leverage Malaysia's National Science, Technology and Innovation Policy to move the nation from mere technology users to technology developers. The WED 2023 will be an important milestone towards this goal and MRANTI invites all public members to join the endeavour.
